I was getting ready to go to a friends birthday party saturday night when the missionaries showed up at the door. They knew that I had a friend down the street that was a non-member and they have been trying to get in with this family to hopefully teach them the discussions. So they asked me if I would invite her to church?
This is not something, unfortunately, that I am used to doing. I did a few times with the young women when I was the president, but adults are totally different! hehe. I admit that I was scared to ask, but I knew that my prayers were being answered fast. I called my friend and visited for a while then asked what she was doing tomorrow (sunday), she told me she had to work (same time as church). I didn't invite her because I knew that she couldn't come. After I got off the phone I felt good. I felt like I had taken that leap of faith and had the courage to actually ask. I did wish that when she told me she had to work I would have told her too bad cause I wanted to invite her to church, but oh well. I'm still learning. :) Oh ya, I did however ask her earlier one day while she was at my house if she wanted visiting teachers. She didn't know what they were so I explained it and she said she would love to have them.
My advice: Let people know up front that you belong to the church. "Friends will come naturally into our lives, and if we are open about our membership in the Church from the beginning, we can easily bring gospel discussions into the relationship with very little risk of being misunderstood....they will accept that this is part of who we are, and they will feel free to ask questions." (Elder Ballard, may ensign)
What will I do next?:
1. I am going to keep her and her family in my prayers that they will have the desire to come to church, and I am going to try to be brave again to invite them to again next week. And I will remember this time that if she has to work, I will at least let her know why I was calling.
2. I will keep on the relief society president and visiting teaching leader (hehe that's me)to make sure that she gets consistent visiting teachers.

So, one day not on the internet (to protect the innocent) I want to know who you are talking about! So curious! (You can let the yard work lady know I cry about church music too. She won't be alone.)
